  The Title of a Web Page

The Title is the first thing that is seen at the top left of any website browser above the pull down menu's. The title is given to each web page on a website to Identify the page and is also the first line of the HTML source code of your web page.

it is inserted between the <tile> </title> tags.

Design On Line - What Is The Title Of A Web Page</title>

It is one of the first things to load when you open a website, and the title is used to Identify a page when you bookmark a website in your favorites

Design the title of your webpage to include the main words or phrases that are associated with a website like yours, If the title says what the website is about then visitors to your site will be able to identify the function of your website when the search engine displays its results.

The page title should be approx 40 - 50 characters long including spaces in-between the words, if you try and use more the title text will be cut off. It is Important to use keywords or words relating to the name of the page in the tile. This is what the Search Engines use when indexing the web page.

How many times have you seen "untitled" for the name of a page in the search engines search results - 100's if not 1000's of times
Another bad Idea is to have "Welcome to my Web Site" "Homepage" or "Page 1" as the page title, this does nothing for optimising your site for the search engines.

Example
<html>
<head>
<title>The Title Of a Web Page</title>
<meta name="description" content="The Title Of A Web Page is used by Search Engines when indexing the page">
<meta name="description" keywords="Title, Web Page Title, Meta Tags, Search Engines, Page Title, Title Meta tag">
<meta name="robots" content="index, follow">
</head>

You must spend time and effort in composing an effective title describing your website
rather than using "Welcome to my Home Page" which is a nice comment to make but will not be effective in getting a high ranking placement with the main search engines, because most of the search engines use the words and phrases found in the title of the website as keywords for searching.
