What is Alt Text

Visitors to your site see your ALT text while the images are downloading or when they mouse overany images. This descriptive text helps them decide if they want to wait for an image to download or move on to a different page. If the image is also a link then visitors can read the text and quickly jump to the section they require

ALT text descriptions should be a complete sentence instead of a list of keywords or obscure phrase like "This is a picture of a tree"
Example
<a href="http://192directory.co.uk/">
<img src="http://192directory.co.uk/graphics/des.gif"
width="468" height="60" ALT="192 Directory The largest FREE 192 Directory Enquiry Search Yellow Pages White Pages People Finder Address Finder Business Directories Search Engines"></a>

ALT text descriptions help you rank higher with some search engines. Google and AltaVista are two of the main search engines that use ALT descriptive text when they rank Web sites
