What are Reciprocal Links

Reciprocal links are one of the most common and most effective forms of website promotion for your site. The basic concept is quite simple - you link to my site and I will link yours and we'll both increase visitors to our sites. In theory yes - but there is a little more to it than just exchanging links with a random site.

The first step is to find the right site or sites to do a reciprocal link exchange with. Choose sites which have similar content to your own site. A good exchange of links has site content that appeals to the same kind of visitors as your site does, if your website is about travel then sites with anything relating to travel is a good reciprocal links exchange yet different enough so they don't compete with each other

After you've found a site that seems to be suitable, contact the webmaster and explain that you own a site that has similar content and you would like to exchange links. Tell them you like the site and have included a link to one of your pages and ask them to return the favour by linking to your site. If you don't get a reply or your proposal gets rejected just forget it and find another site, remember that there are more than 3 Billion web pages now so it's not that difficult to find sites similar to your own

Don't link to sites with site content different to your own site - Search Engines are now penalising sites for containing links which are not relevant to your own site content
